“Small Operator in the Anadarko Basin:  Highlights from the Cleveland play in Dewey County and the “Cherokee” Shale play in Ellis County”

with Tiffany M. Stephens and Bryan Hunt, Duncan Oil Properties, Inc

Duncan Oil Properties, Inc. is a small operator in the Anadarko Basin.  They have been in the business over 80 years and have become a major player in the Cleveland Tight Sand Horizontal Play and the “Cherokee” Shale Play.  Duncan was an early mover in the switch to horizontal drilling.  They also moved to cased-hole slick water fracs early (beginning in 2015) and greatly improved their production EUR’s on infill horizontals in the Cleveland, (some child wells being 5 times the EUR of the parent well).  This improvement in completion techniques to a slick water cased-hole frac has carried over to other plays, including the newly established “Cherokee” Shale Play.  This play was revealed by Mewbourne in Ellis County, OK, and all operators in this play have used a cased-hole slick water frac.

Since the start of Mewbourne’s shale play, Duncan has spent time researching vertical cuttings, core data, production data from the major operators, mudlogs, and other geological data.  They have mapped Ellis County with different techniques, performed Delta Log R (Passey Method) calculations, and also looked at pressure and maturity data.  While this play is still being actively drilled and evaluated, Duncan will share the history of the play and what they’ve learned so far in Ellis County, OK.  They will also share the results of their two “Cherokee” shale horizontals drilled under Cleveland/Marmaton wells in Ellis County, and their drilling issues and successes.
